Collaboration in Action: NH Marine Trades Association Brings CO Safety Statewide

CO Alliance Executive Committee Member, Bill Degnan reached out to Jodi Grimbilas, President of J Grimbilas Strategic Solutions LLC, with an idea to expand carbon monoxide safety outreach to more boaters. Jodi brought the opportunity to the New Hampshire Marine Trades Association (NHMTA), a statewide leader in promoting safe boating, healthy lakes, and a strong recreational boating culture.

NHMTA is known for its work with policymakers, regulatory agencies, and industry partners, and they immediately recognized the value of broadening public education around CO safety. During their March meeting, members unanimously approved distributing CO Boating Safety flyers at marinas across the state.

From there, the request gained momentum. The CO Alliance quickly ordered 25 high‑quality, weather‑resistant flyers through the #LoveLikeAfton campaign, and by the end of May, NHMTA had already placed 10 of them in key boating locations! This partnership is a powerful example of how coordinated outreach can reach new audiences and strengthen public safety messaging statewide.

Visitors to New Hampshire marinas can now spot these bright, informative posters, so keep an eye out, snap a photo, and help spread the word.

• Always use a marine CO detector.

• Seat children in the forward-most seating on the boat.

• Avoid idling and exposure to other boats’ emissions.

• Maintain fresh air circulation at all times.

• Symptoms of CO poisoning mirror seasickness.
